Open Source Software- Is India at advantage

Indian Government Initiative on offering free software in local languages has been welcomed by the Open Source Group. Previous research on computing in local languages of India has shown excellent results of speedy process in few of them. India being celebrated, as the hub of IT and software services, one has to consider, would it be a threat or opportunity.

  • Techies smile as PM promises to double outlay for the sector

    Scientists and technologists haven’t stopped grinning after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced his government’s intention to double the outlay for science & technology (S&T) to 2% of GDP. He was speaking at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in Trombay after inaugurating a Teraflop class supercomputer facility touted to be India’s newest and fastest kid on the supercomputing block.

  • Honeywell starts manufacturing turbochargers in India
    Pune, Nov 15
    The shift in the Indian passenger car and SUV markets towards diesel engines has propelled prospects for turbochargers manufacturers. The $26 billion Honeywell Group is looking at picking up a significant share of this market and has started manufacturing new generation turbochargers at its unit in Hinjewadi, Pune. Tata Motors will be its first customer in India for these engine boosters.

  • Motorola to roll out first home-made phone in Dec
    Nov, 17

    Motorola, the world’s second largest mobile handset maker, announced that it will roll out its first Made-in-India mobile phone in the local market by December. However, the US-based telecom giant stopped a step short of announcing its own greenfield venture. As per the plan, Motorola will source its low-cost, entry-level GSM handsets from a global vendor who will manufacture the product locally.
