Nano Car - really is...
Nano Car has recently created enough interest as well as criticism. Nanotechnology has lot more to offer either the electronics inside the car or shrinking the car down to a smaller size. Recently one of the nanotechnology researchers from Japan displayed a miniature car running around a coin built with nano circuitry. This show of technology took place in 3rd Nanotechnology Conclave 2008 organized by CII & Nomura Research Institute, Japan together with Department of Science & Technology on 19-20 March, 2008 at Hotel Le Royal Meridian, Chennai. Nanotechnology Conclave had a major role to play in transforming industry on being a platform for collaboration and to introduce new technologies that are under development from various institutes and industry. The Keynote address by Dr. A Sivathanupillai, CEO, BrahMos Aerospace Ltd. accentuated the need for the co-ordination of research activities on nanotechnology. The support expressed from Government of Tamilnadu for nanotechnology provided more hope. Earlier Government of Tamil Nadu had introduced establishment of Nanotechnology Industrial Park in the Industrial Policy. The conference proceeded with sessions of importance like Nanomaterials & Coatings, nanoelectronics, and nanotechnology applications, use of nanotechnology in environment and agriculture. The discussions included new processes of producing carbon nanotubes, fullerenes, new equipment and processes for nanomaterial production, and various other ranges of technology possibilities under nanomaterials. The Indian research aspirations included research and production of nano fertilizers, nano herbicides which is very well in need of the hour considering the priority sector like agriculture. The conclave ended with a promise to bring in more international partners for collaborative research in future. The 4th Nanotechnology Conclave is already on the planning stage with a highly innovative country like Finland expressing interest to partner with CII. |
