Innovation is the ability to see change as an opportunity and translate new ideas into value added products or services. There is a direct link between Innovation, science, technology and societal needs. Innovation is the key for solutions in agriculture, industry, business and trade, services as well as in governance for providing quality health care, population management, providing for basic amenities like rural water supply and sanitation, etc., and prevention and mitigation of natural disasters. Historically, India has been the land of innovations were great innovators adorned the needs of the nation with their contributions. India occupies a unique place today among the world nations in terms of creating value added products and services. The innovation ecosystem that exists in India is unique of its kind considering the diversity of language, religion, and culture. Even though the ecosystem flourishes on its own, there is a strong needed to capture the essence of the ecosystem and nurture it further by injecting with effective and efficient ideas. A roadmap is essential to involve all the stakeholders to support this process. Confederation of Indian Industry is bringing out the report "Innovate India" - a clarion call for all stake holders including Industry, Government and Society to Innovate. The report has taken a "holistic view" and has made suggestions to improve the Innovation eco system in the country especially around human capital, engendering creativity, Colloboration, Flexibility and Transparency. CII is seeing this report as a first step towards fostering an innovation eco-system is planning a number of follow-up activities. The Ministry of Science and Technology is committed to be a catalyst for Innovation in India and is supporting CII's effort ot promote Innovation culture in the country. |
